Week 2
The song Soldiers Joy, by Gid Tanner and the Skillet Lickers, is a song where the beat does not really match the weight of what they are singing about. It reminds me a lot of Pumped up Kicks by, Foster the People. The song is about a soldier who has returned from war and has a bad case of PTSD. So bad that the only way that he can escape the reality of the terrible things he has been through is to drink away his pain. But that alone isn't weird or unusual by itself. What makes it strange is how upbeat and fun of a tune this song has. If you don't think about the lyrics and just listen to the music it sounds a lot like a fun jam. Pumped Up Kicks is similar to this because it is a song about school shootings/ school shooters, and it also has a very upbeat and happy tune to it.
I actually kind of actually like the tune of this song. It has a pretty long intro, and it takes a bit for the vocals to actually start. But once they finally do, it is very fast-paced and is something that I can easily imagine being a fun song for something like line dancing. I think this would have been a very fun song to dance to. But it is honestly a fairly short song and it only has 3 verses, but in the last 2, the first 3 lines are the exact same.
