Week 3

This week for my blog I will choose to write about the song, "I Got Rhythm" by, George/Ira Gershwin. I think this song is very weird for how it kind of seems very boastful and prideful. This wouldn't be so weird if it would have come out in more recent years. There are way more arrogant songs now, but for the time it was written in, I would think that it would be received a lot more harshly than it seems to have been. But it is very impressive how loud Ira Gershwin can get. I was definitely not expecting it to sound at all like that when I was looking at the album cover picture. I think it is super cool how different of styles different people can have when they are singing. How some people can make being very quiet and soft sound really good and make it work, while there are other people that can fill an auditorium without even am microphone and have it still somehow sound not like they are screaming. This is very dumb and I don't like doing these assignments. I wish I didn't need to do them.

  1. Hey Drew, I think it is pretty interesting people's vocal strength's as well. I did my blog on a crooner and they usually have very smooth voice. When we watched Ira Gershwin in class it was pretty crazy how loud she got. Especially in comparison to the crooner guy that was singing with her. It's funny how you commented on how prideful the song could seem yet today that wouldn't even be noticed in comparison to the music that is popular.

  2. To me this song definitely represents the type of music written around this time. It is kind of interesting as you said that it wasn't received a little more harshly at its time considering that way most of the mainstream trends in music and dance were received then. Yep, Ira is a loud singer, and it is funny to see how that style became so popular. I don't know a ton of the context or history of the song but I know it's a significant one in history because I think most people recognize it to a degree.
