Week 6

For the sixth week in this class, I chose to write about the song Mystery Train by Elvis Presley for my blog. It is one of the many songs by Elvis Presley that became very popular. Elvis is probably the most well-known music artist ever and him and his songs will be remembered forever. This song is very catchy and upbeat. It is a song that I could very easily see in an old movie playing during a road trip montage of two people driving across the country in their car. I am not entirely sure what it is about, but from what I can tell it is about someone who let someone they loved go and they rode off in a train, and how they are not going to let that happen again because "she's mine all mine". The song is very repetitive. It really only has about four to five lines or so that are just constantly repeated over and over again throughout the song. I guess it goes to show how popular Elvis actually was because this song didn't have a lot to say, I pretty much could explai...

Week 5

For this week in class, I have decided that I am going to listen to, and then write about the song, Great Speckled Bird by Roy Acuff. This song follows the typical AABA structure that is one of the most widely used templates for writing a song. It also follows the tune of, " Thrills That I Can't Forget,"  by Welby Toomey and Edgar Boaz. It is also based off of a bible verse, being Jeremiah 12:9. This verse talks about a great speckled bird and heritage.  The song is very slow and happy. Almost a joyful calm and smoothe ballad of someone singing about their joyful aspirations of the future and what is to come. It is also a very blatantly religious song that it is even called a hymn by some people. It definitely has a unique feeling for a hymn. I am surprised how openly religious it is for being a song that was popular enough to make a lasting impact enough that it has become a song that we have studied in class. I would think that it would be a smalle hymn or song that on...

Week 4

For my blog this week I chose to listen to the song  Tom Rushen Blues by Charlie Patton. This song is very slow and mellow. But when I first heard it, it reminded me of a lot of the song Secret Tunnel from Avatar the Last Airbender. Both songs sound like they are using very similar instruments. But the song from Avatar is still mellow, but it definitely has more energy as the song goes on. It is kind of vague what the song is actually about, but what it sounds like to me is, a story mainly about alcohol. At first, he is passed out hungover when he is awoken by the police who is Tom Rushen who takes him to jail. But even when he gets to jail he is still drinking. He finds alcohol of Halloway who could be like a warden or guard or something and keeps on drinking. It seems like he is an alcoholic to try to get away from his problems because he also talks about screamin' and cryin'. I think he is just trying to get away from his problems but then he ends up in jail and everything g...
