Week 4

For my blog this week I chose to listen to the song Tom Rushen Blues by Charlie Patton. This song is very slow and mellow. But when I first heard it, it reminded me of a lot of the song Secret Tunnel from Avatar the Last Airbender. Both songs sound like they are using very similar instruments. But the song from Avatar is still mellow, but it definitely has more energy as the song goes on. It is kind of vague what the song is actually about, but what it sounds like to me is, a story mainly about alcohol. At first, he is passed out hungover when he is awoken by the police who is Tom Rushen who takes him to jail. But even when he gets to jail he is still drinking. He finds alcohol of Halloway who could be like a warden or guard or something and keeps on drinking. It seems like he is an alcoholic to try to get away from his problems because he also talks about screamin' and cryin'. I think he is just trying to get away from his problems but then he ends up in jail and everything gets worse and the cycle continues.
